"Dragway 91" 2004 Report

The race went well for the most part. We had a few glitches as expected.  I will list some of the problems and suggestions.

·        The new IG computer does not have a RS232 port. This port is required to connect to the timers. I bought a cable to convert from USB port to RS232 but it did not work and I did not have time to troubleshoot it so I just used a backup computer.

·        The other problem is after each round the computer disconnects from the timers. You must remember to reconnect before running the next round of races or the times will not be recorded.

·        You cannot work on the next round of races and print a schedule while running the current race. It would be a good idea to have 2 computers. This way one could be used to run the race and the other could be used to prepare the other races and print the schedules. This would have saved a lot of time.

·        Also instead of having all the racers and age brackets in one big file we should have 5 separate race files. One for each age bracket and one for the championship. This goes hand-in-hand with using 2 computers. If all the racers are in one file you cannot prepare the next race while another is going on. Also the data from each race can be saved in these race files. If all races are run from one big file the results are erased after each age bracket. If you forget to export the data it will be lost.

I know this is a lot of technical stuff to digest. I will write a more detailed report and try to make it as simple as possible for the next group who runs the race matrix.

I think the check in and pictures went smooth you guys can discuss this. I didn't here any complaints.

I have sent the race results to Laurin Kline of the Zuni Tribe who took the pictures. I am not sure what their plans are. I think they were going to incorporate the photos and the race times into some kind of certificate for the boys with their photo and their race results. Should we post this on the web or send it out via email. You guys can discuss this. I also have sent the results to Glenn. Glenn after you guys discuss this issue you can forward the results to the webmaster or talleykeeper for mass distribution.

I would like to personally thank everyone involved in making this a great event.

I know it took a lot of time and hard work. Thanks Guys!
